white wine barrel aged honey based strong ale with chardonnay must as well, a brilliant and appropriately fancy beer to celebrate this occasion. not quite as lively as i would have hoped from the bottle and the likening itself to champagne, but the aroma is killer, highly floral sweet honey, raw and natural tasting, and despite the extended ageing and the strength, its still quite obviously sweet. i like what the wine barrels and the grape must do here, giving it a light sharpness, but a rich woodiness and the bright lightly citrusy fruitiness, it sings of freshness and the harvest season, and it seems rustic in its yeast complexion, clean for what this is, but sort of wild at the same time, french type saison vinous and floral notes kill it with the honey, while the funky bretty fruitiness is full of slsiced pineapple, kiwi, and citrus, also phenomenal with the wine elements, especially the grape, so brilliant. at first i was a little nervous about the strength with the funky yeasts and the honey, usually these things prefer a more delicate landscape, but the level of refinement and complexity here is a testament to the awesomeness of the brewer, really professional, unique, and delicious. its going to be awfully hard to top this one in future anniversary releases! amazingly distinctive beer, great use of honey, dont miss this!
