Clear, dark amber to light copper (SRM 8-12). One half inch of light beige head forms a fine foam that becomes creamy as it settles over the next five minutes. Microscopic carbonation ascends in chaotic swarms to stabilize a thin blanket that holds for the duration. Spotty streaks of fine lace are left on a Spaten dimpled mug.
The aroma opens with lightly toasted grains and wheat bread. Sweet malt gives way to clean, light nuts in the background.
The flavor is crisp, with mild bitterness balanced by sweetness. The malt lacks the expected toasted flavors promised by the nose. It has some apple and some toffee. The finish is long and strong with astringency.
It has a medium body and a stiff nylon texture. Carbonation is modest, while the alcohol is slightly higher than expected. It has a peculiar metallic quality.
I enjoyed this Marzen after a day at the desk. It would go well with pretzels and brown mustard.

Had on tap. Pours clear, amber in color with one quarter inch head. Taste is toasted bread and malt. Medium body, moderate carbonation, slightly sweet. Nice domestic version of the style.
