Tasted side by side with the LTD Night Falls Knob Creek Barrel Aged version.

This beer pours an opaque black color. The head is tan in color, and recedes quickly as is standard for a barrel aged beer. The aroma is of oak, some bourbon, some dark chocolate, and a little roasted malt. All is on the lighter side, and must be looked for unlike the Knob Creek version which is more up front on the nose. The taste is more bourbon forward than the aroma, but with less oak. There is a nice, strong, complex roasted character coming through from the base beer. There is more chocolate than in the aroma, and this time it is milk chocolate. This version is closer to the base beer than the Knob Creek version, but equally as complex. It is clearly a really good base beer. The mouthfeel is thick, viscousy, chewy...all the things that are wanted in a big imperial stout. Overall, this is a fine barrel aged imperial stout. I've been drinking and reviewing craft beer for over eleven years now, and this is the first time I've had the oppertunity to taste the exact same beer (as in from the same batch of beer), aged in different barrel. Kudos to LTD for making that happen. From the beet knowledge I've gained throughout the years I know that doind so was exponentially more work for you than blending a bunch of barrel. Thanks.

Tan head. Dark brown black in color.

Very nice Bourbon flavors. Nice oak and vanilla. Chocolate and light roast.

Smooth and warming.

One of the better variants. Slight flavors similar to BCBS.
