On tap at the brewery served in a snifter.

Look- A deep burgundy color with a trace amount of foam that rings the glass.

Smell- A perfume-like sweetness takes center stage followed by figs, dates, and some burnt caramel.

Taste- Sweet and floral to begin, followed by figs, dates, and wood tannins. A hint of banana and clove in there as well.

Feel- Very dry with considerable alcohol heat.

Overall- A big beer that's a bit too rough around the edges for my liking. The wood tannin flavor I'm getting coupled with the considerable alcohol is giving it a medicinal/artificial flavor that is wearing on me as I work through the glass. I'd be curious as to how this would develop/taste with some age on it? As it is, I'll pass in the future.

Appearance - The beer was a deep copper color with little head.

Smell - Earthy hops are a big part of the aroma, but the sweetness of malts is also detectable.

Taste - On the initial taste, hops make an impression with Earthy notes and some orange. The malts present a stable background giving some hints of caramel and biscuit. In the aftertaste, the residue of the hops make the biggest impression.

Mouthfeel - For a barleywine, the beer was a little thin but appropriately carbonated.

Overall - As far as the style goes, this is hardly bold. Yet it is the understated nature that I find most attractive.
