This one pours a golden dark brown color, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells like caramel, vanilla, oak, bourbon, leather, tiramisu, toffee, and some spice.

This is probably (definitely) the best beer that I've had from 3 Sons yet. It's just a sticky barrel expression, with caramel, toffee, vanilla, and lots of bourbon. It's definitely sweet, but not overly so, as it manages to finish decently dry, without much booziness.

This is medium bodied, fairly smooth, with a dry oaky finish.

It's impressive to see a pasrty hype brewery be able to nail something more "basic" like a straight up barrel aged barleywine.

Drank from a 500ml/16.9 fl.oz bottle purchased at 3 Sons Brewing Company, Dania Beach, FL
Served in a tulip

Hazy, deep chestnut brown appearance. Perhaps a bit murky. The beer poured with absolutely no head and looked totally still in the glass.

Fantastic aroma. Dark fruit notes came through big time. Loads of raisin, plum and fig character. Moderately boozy with a hint of oxidation. An aged port or a sherry came to mind. Some bourbon was also noticeable, but not as much as I anticipated. Big caramel and toffee presence too. Touch of vanilla and brown sugar. Sweet but not excessively so for the style. As the beer warmed, the vanilla and brown sugar notes really intensified, as did the bourbon.

The flavor profile was also impressive. Super malty and robust. Sweet caramel and toffee notes led things off. Loads of dark fruit character in the center. Charred raisins, prunes and figs came to mind. The bourbon appeared next and really crescendoed as the beer moved along the palate. Strong brown sugar and vanilla notes as well. A boozy, bourbon-like warmth lingered after the swallow.

The mouthfeel was outstanding. Full bodied for the style. Super creamy and soft on the palate. The liquid contained a fine, subtle effervescence that lent the beer an amazing suppleness.

Aged for an astounding twenty months in bourbon barrels, Big Sxxxy displays its barrel character like few other BBL barleywines do. This boozy and complex whopper of a beer could be enjoyed while sitting in front of a roaring fire on a cold winter night or, in my case, on a humid, 80 degree South Florida afternoon.
