16oz tallboy can received courtesy of the good offices of FrankenMiller. According to the stamp on the bottom of the can, it was canned on November 4, 2020. Can is beat all to hell, something I didn't notice until now.
Poured into a tallboy glass (the style the glass probably has a name, but I don't know what it is), this was a bit ugly to behold. Totally opaque, with a color I struggle to identify. It's like a blend of orange and taupe, with a somewhat thin, beige head. No lace to speak of.
Whoa! This Double IPA is a dessert in a glass, judging by the aroma. Big whiff of strawberries and vanilla, along with a milkiness from the Lacto. The vanilla was added with a heavy hand, too. It's an equal partner in the scent to the strawberries.
The flavor is much like the aroma, although a little more balanced. Still, the vanilla is fiercely present. I think there's a tiny bit of a tropical citrus juice flavor in the finish. That's just about the only way you know that what you're drinking is, in fact, an IPA.
Full body and a soft yet full mouthfeel. This is a big beer in terms of impact on the tastebuds.
I kinda fucked up when I opened this up to drink with my dinner. Shoulda held onto it until dessert. I think I'd prefer a 12oz serving of this over a tallboy, but that's mainly a case of having too much of a good thing all at once. I'm not someone who sessions milkshake IPAs, but I'd definitely drink this again. I'd just wait on opening it until after dinner. Thanks, Gene!
