Pretty close to a Spaten Optimator. Would definitely drink again when in the mood for a German style doppelbock.

For a dark brown with a thin tan head. Tan head gave way to nice lacing. Nose is bready. Taste is toasted bread with a slight dark candy flavor to it.good beer.

Dark, clear, mahogany body; dense, lively carbonation; one-finger thick head, light tan colored, somewhat dense and definitely lasting. Outstanding dark roasted grain nose adding some hints suggesting anise and brown sugar. Fantastic taste; rich with caremelized sugars, burnt sugars, toffee and brown sugar; a bit of peppermint-like aftertaste; moderately bitter. Heavy body; velvety residual sugars coat the palate; moderate velvety mouthfeel with the sweetness yet finishes with a soft yet lasting low-key dryness.
I look for richness and big malt flavor in a doppelbock. This beer has delivered! There is a some wonderful overall depth and complexity to this beer.

Excellent, dark tan head atop a a very dark body - nearly ebony in thicker portions of the glass, but a garnet-tinged cola color when held up to the light. Overall the presentation gives a strong impression of dark bread. Retention is OK, eventually fading to a tiny foamy ring around the edge of the glass. No lacing.
Wonderful nose, a blend of just-sweet-enough dark fruit, dark bread, nuts, cola, and light caramel. Slightly floral. Nothing off; very traditional, a very aromatic beer with a somehow delicate hand.
Very similar on the palate. There's a hint of cherry I can't quite place, and a note of citrus peel from the hops, but the main presentation is a slightly grainy and bready malt base. Mild roast and coffee notes; just a bit of brown sugar.
Crisp mouthfeel with plenty of bite among the gums; slick, light-to-medium body.
Overall, this is a slightly fresh take on a Doppelbock that is still traditional. I wouldn't replace a classic like Celebrator with this in rotation, perhaps, but it's a welcome change up and a well executed beer.
