(2016) Served in goblet, on tap @ location 10/17.
A: Big creamy tan-bronze head sits one inch above a pitch black serving. The head is very lasting, and sturdy for a style of high abv and barrel aging nature which typically sees very little if any topping. The lacing on the vessel was equally impressive with a very generous coating.
S: The aroma of freshly ground dark roasted beans was plentiful and impressive, bringing a silky roast nature backed by some dark rich chocolate. Light cocoa beans come forth, the abv% is very well hidden here. Some rich dark fruit, dry milk and chocolate bitterness. Very soothing.
T: The coffee nature is well pronounced, rich, dry, roasty, and fresh with a significant amount of Bourbon influence. From my recent tour I’m guessing one of those Buffalo Trace barrels in the back? I was informed this was last year’s variety, so this continues to age smoothly. Beautiful soft bittering roast and ash minerality, some alcohol, but no where near its advertised strength. Dark fruit of plums and especially black cherries are finished off with a dried milky creamer and almost dry Irish stout finish.
M: The mouthful was silky smooth, creamy and soft, void of any carbonation, and had a dark mineral feel and light dried milk and chalky touch every so slight off the tongue.
O: Overall, Class A beer, beautiful roast base and strong bourbon barrel influence makes this slide down effortlessly, like a silky, roast dream. You can’t go wrong ordering one of these and the price is just right.
