Clear copper colour under a short head. Lots of caramel, lots of malt in the nose, alongside raisiny fruit. Comes across as sweet and indeed drinks sweet. Could stand some more spice and yeast. Brittle mouth feel. Too much sugar for me, not enough of the good stuff that makes up a Belgian.

473 ml can served fairly cold into a Chimay goblet. An LCBO purchase for just over $3 CDN.
Appearance - A bright and clear copper colored brew, topped with a finger of quick receding off-white head. No lacing to speak of and plenty of carbonation within.
Smell - Hints of yeast and candi sugar, plenty of banana in there as well. Quite similar in aroma to your standard hefeweizen minus a clove presence.
Taste - Medium sweet, some banana again and candi sugar with the distinctive yeast, Taste is a touch thin although pleasant enough.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, low carbonation pretty easy to quaff, although a touch syrupy for a 4.5% Belgian pale ale.
Overall - A nice addition to this traditionally German style heavy lineup.

Tallboy from the LCBO; canned Aug 15 2017 and served slightly chilled.
Pours hazy amber-orange, with one cm of soapy off-white head dissipating within a minute's time. Minimal lacing, with a modest collar of foam clinging to survival; not very impressive, visually speaking. The aroma is approachable, and my nose is focusing on its yeastiness - I'm getting clove, apple skin, pear and ripe banana backed by a comparatively mild caramelized malt sweetness, as well as some grassy straw hops.
An inoffensive Belgian pale ale; the yeast continues to play a central role in the flavour profile. Grainy pale malts and caramel sweetness fill up the background, but fruitier notes of pear, red apple flesh and banana are more likely to attract your taste buds' attention. Yeasty and a tad bit too phenolic on the back end, with grassy, spicy hops and clove helping to obscure the hint of bandage adhesive. Medium-full body - surprisingly chewy for such a light beer, with moderate carbonation and smooth texture. I finished the can easily enough, but I don't think I'd want to drink more than one of these per evening.
Final Grade: 3.4, a B-. Smithavens Nottabottle is a decent enough light Belgian pale ale, I suppose, but I don't think I'll return to it in the near future. Reminds me of Bell City's Lenoir, but only a little bit; this particular BPA is both a little more yeast-dominated and more sessionable (due to its much lower abv), but the biggest similarity is that neither one really compares to even the middle-tier Belgian imports. Worth a look if it's there, but not worth seeking out.
