This seemingly simple Saison uses the additions of wheat malt and Belgian yeast to be smooth yet crisp on the palate but the simplicity then takes off on a flavor bursting ride when the brewers throw in the addition of pink peppercorns, coriander and orange peel which complement the Belgian yeast spiciness along with add a slightly sweet finish with notes of citrus and red berries. This one is perfect and what we call the 102 degree day beer.6.2% ABV 38 IBUs

July 3rd, 2015 - This beer marks an uptick in a trend of incorporating wacky but intriguing ingredients in beers circa 2015. That peppercorn provides a beautiful pomegranate color to the beer, radiant red and orange like a sunset, even in a tiny taster glass. It's no surprise than that the aroma is sweet and enticing, with a sharp tanginess and an agave sweetness. The sweetness in the flavor manifests like a golden ale, with a touch of grainy sweetness, and then lychee and guava in the aftertaste. I never get an unwelcome hit of sharp peppercorns (thank goodness) but instead the richness of those tiny fermented berries.

L: Copper gold color with a small white head and a slight bit of lacing.
S: A little bit of peppercorn, the yeast is the star here, with a spicy peppery bread and dough. Some floral hops.
T: Strong saison yeast, spicy and peppery with bread and dough.
F: Medium body and higher carbonation.
O: This is a pretty solid saison.

On tap at the brewery into a nonic glass.
A-The beer arrives with a short white head that fades quickly to a film of foam. A stray bit of lace clings to the glass. The beer is nearly gold in color with a light haze.
S-The aroma is pretty subdued with less peppercorn than I was expecting. The Belgian-style yeast was really well done, however, with nice bready, doughy notes, and less sour character than many other American saisons. A little grass and spice too.
T-The taste follows the smell closely. The yeast is the highlight here with one of the better "old-world" profiles that I have tasted in a Denver brewed beer. Again, the peppercorn is subtle and the beer has mild funk with a bit of doughy sweetness.
M-The heft is heavier for the style with a nice, moderate volume of carbonation.
O-This is a pretty tasty brew. If you want something wild or sour, look elsewhere, but if you want a beer that you hangout with but not get bored with, this is a good choice. Belgian yeast fans will appreciate it.

a very nice saison here, although i dont think the peppercorns add as much as my girlfriend or i had hoped when we tried this one. what i like about this rather clear brew for the style is its yeast. its more interesting than others, not the classic french, but some more subtle, less viniferous than that, more delicate, more funk. the peppercorns to provide only a sweetness of aroma and a more herbal or even fruity element tot he finish, more than any real noticeable spice flavor. not complaining though, its an accent, not a dominant flavor, and its successful in that regard. the beer has a sturdy base, maybe more than just wheat here, a lot of body, and it can get a little filling for me, even with the great carbonation and excited finish. its subtle beer, not intended to be a mind blower i dont suspect. perhaps an excellent example of the style for newcomers to it. even for a mature saison palate, i found this to be a comfortable yet interesting brew. one i would drink again for sure. chain reaction has made a wonderful first impression on me.
