Enjoyed from a 500 mL bottle poured to a snifter. Pitch black with a thin layer of cocoa-colored head that dissipates quickly. Legs when swirled, befitting the high ABV. Birch bark, bourbon spice, anise, bittersweet baker's chocolate, and grape on the nose. The habanero peppers immediately appear on the palate, with a capsaicin punch to the back of the throat, but they don't produce any great heat. As such, it's one of the most balanced and effective uses of chiles I've had from this semi-fashionable style. Long, moderately dry finish that offers a nice blend of the roasted grains, chiles, and chocolate, but with some dry farmhouse and rye notes for variety. Really interesting and seems to be flying completely under the radar for a big, spiced stout.

Imperial Stout aged 6-26 months in bourbon barrels with hickory smoked chilies and cacao nibs.
look: Very dark, nearly opaque. Slight mocha head on the pour.
smell: Roasty and a bit of char. Rich bourbon and vanilla notes.
taste: velvet smooth like Dark River I. Sweeter than DR I. Rich bourbon and vanilla.
