500 mL bottle poured to a snifter. Deep ruby plum color with a half-finger of head that fizzes off relatively quickly, leaving a ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass. Tart acetic notes contrasted with rye and oak spice on the nose. The cherry blooms on the front palate, yielding a great balance of sour base, fruited sweetness, and rye spice. Montmorency is not my favorite cherry by far, but in this case, its round sourness and pie-filling undertones really soften out the edges from the extended barrel treatment. Orpheus continues to crank out some of the best barrel-aged fruited sours in the country, as far as my palate is concerned.
