Sour ale is all the rage, but are you over it? Then you must be really over passionfruit sour ale. ...and over and over passionfruit pineapple sour ale. ...and then over and over again with vanilla, passionfruit, pineapple sour ale. But if not, then Orpheus Brewing has just a beer for you.
A firm haze of golden and straw color adorns the glass while a frothy loose cap adorns the rim. a burst of succulence is released with a rich and rife scent of tropical fruit, cider, white wine and green berry and a faint scent of damp burlap and white wine. Fruity sweetness splashes the early palate along with notions of honeysuckle, sourdough and taffy from a grain's perspective.
And a starburst of flavors happens again as the fruit and sourness hit the middle palate at once. Mouthwatering and drying at the same time, its the juiciness of passionfruit and an undertow of pineapple that provides an exotic flare to the taste. But the natural fruit flavors complement the tropical mix with crabapple, lime, sour white grape, gooseberry, and all with a lemon meringue creamy sourness. The faint earthiness of dry balsa provides a slight finish of wood along with the brisk acidity.
Medium bodied and with a cream of wheat texture, the beer's lingering feel of pillowy malts never provide a distraction to the drying nature of sourness or tangy fruitiness. They shine in what's become the universal cheat code for sour ale: passionfruit and vanilla.
