Eenie meenie miney mo, catch a tiger by its...
Regardless what a tiger nut is, I pity the fool who's job it is to collect these. But in the end, the rewards are worth it. Orpheus brewers use this superfood in an imperial stout that'll have us all questioning what's real and what's not.
Jet black and pouring with inky legging, I Saw Myself When I Was Real releases a dainty swirl of mocha creme before luring in the nose with a robust and savory scent that circulates around dark coffee, chocolate, espresso, nuttiness, hints of dark fruit and a spicy twinge of booze. Its first sip is both saturating and satisfying with a malty-rich upstart of blackstrap molasses, honey, brown sugar, maple and burnt gingersnaps to make the sweet tooth immediately happy.
With complete saturation in full swing, the middle palate is rife with espresso roast, bittersweet chocolate and candied nuttiness without surrendering its robust sweetness. With hints of whisky-soaked fruit pulling from the ester and alcohol profile, the taste of grape and cherry add charm and spice. Trending roast-sweet with the suggestions of coconut and marzipan following, the flavors of the tiger nut actually find a place in all the other forceful flavors.
Full bodied, rich and pleasantly chewy, the Imperial nutty Stout finishes sweet and spicy with a prickling boozy mouthfeel. As a tough of whisky and brandy lightly numb the palate, a linger of coconut and molasses remain.
