So many scotch barleywines overrun the nuance with booze and earth, not here! Opaque dark brown body, tan collar. Smell might be the best of scotch ba barleywine I've had in a while balancing the peated earth, scotch and dark rustic oak with barley, caramel, prune, bittersweet chocolate and dried fig. Taste has some of that earthy and petey booze on the back end in a big way, but before that really nice barley, dark fruit, caramel, etc. Feel is pretty refined, while still maintaining plenty of barrel, chewy as it warms. Nice work here, opens up more complexly as it warms up

Released May 2022; drank 7/17/22 @ the Yarchives.
Black/brown appearance.
A rough pour yielded a small tan head; decent lace.
Milk chocolate, oak, caramel & milk chocolate notes in the nose.
Thick, sticky mouthfeel.
Fresh tobacco & milk chocolate flavors up front; scotch & wood notes on the finish. As this warmed, the booze heat emerged.
Bold but well-integrated; this was damn good.
