Poured a cloudy, murky brown color with a one-finger, tan head of foam. It smelled of smoke, nuttiness and some toffee. It tasted a little like BBQ. Sweet caramel, nuts and toffee, too.

First had poured from growler into nonic pint. Always on lookout for a twist on the brown ale, the mesquite smoke is well-calibrated to balance out the malt sweetness, in this lighter, dryer brown ale. Also goes well with peel-and-eat shrimp.

On-tap 12/17/2016 at Battleship Brewhouse in Fall River, MA, served in a US tumbler pint glass.
A: The beer is a bright coppery brown color, with a large off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma contains maple, nuts, some smoke, caramelized malts and some hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel and maple. Then a strong breadiness comes in from a hearty malt character. There are some background flavors of nuts and smoke. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly bready and slightly sweet.
M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for a while if you’re in the mood for the style.

Tasted during the American Homebrewers Association rally at the Boston brewery 07/16/15.
Good tasting fresh brown ale served on tap. The mesquite bbq flavor not coming through but solid brown ale.
