Pours a two finger white head that fades slowly and leaves some lace. Almost clear amber color. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is slight citrus and yeast. Flavor has some malty sweetness and citrus. Part of $9.99 mixed 6-pak from Shaw's Supermarket Concord, NH.

L: Clear golden pour with thick foamy white head. Lasts a good while... nice lacing.

T.F: German malts.. crackery grains. Citrus and lemongrass... hopping for modest bitterness. A bit of bread and yeast. Light bodied and well carbonated.

Poured from a standard, freshness dated Sam Adams' 12 oz. bottle: surprisingly deep golden with a slight haze-not typical for the style-with a nice, foamy white head. As this is a "seasonal" offering, I guess the brewery decided to take some liberties with the style.

Some husky, strong aromas of citrus - again not typical for the style.

The flavor simply leaves the style behind; that is not to say this is not a good and satisfying lager, as it has a nice bready and yeasty flavor with some hints of lemon and vanilla. However, it is slightly astringent with some citrus burn, and a lingering bitterness on the palate.

This product is advertised as an early spring seasonal, so I suppose that accounts for its hearty feel and higher alcohol content. I certainly enjoyed it, but at times, I wished for the authentic thing.

Poured into a grip shaped goblet: color is on the darker side for helles, with a dark straw hue, slight haze, nice deep head.

Smell is biscuit and toasty malt, a bit sweet but not a caramel aroma just sweeter bread.

Taste is light biscuit and toasted malt, a bit sweet and full in flavor.

Mouthfeel is moderately carbonated but full in presence from the slight lingering sweetness.

Overall this leans to sweet side of helles lagers and is just a bit fuller bodied than expected.

12 oz bottle, best before Jun 2019.

This was a confusing beer for me. If this is a Bavarian Lager, it certainly does not look like any Bavarian lager I've ever had before. It's way too cloudy for any kind of lager. Light amber in color with a big, creamy white head. The head shows excellent retention with tons of lacing on the glass.

There is a sweetness in the aroma but it's not in the form of pilsner malt. Instead, it's honey-like with maybe some wheat as well. Light citrus and floral hops as well. Blindfolded, I might guess this was a witbier. Even the flavor has a bit of a witbier quality to it too. Finishes dry and a little bland. Medium bodied with good carbonation.

Overall, this isn't a bad beer, it's just not a Bavarian lager. Not even close, really.

Look, this is good. I'm not a huge Sam Adams fan by any means but it's nice to see something different from them to try from time to time. Looks very hazy orange, kinda like an IPA, smells lagery however, and tastes pretty decent, with a bit of hoppiness. Not something I'd buy regularly but it was enjoyable, and that's all you can really ask for sometimes.

Weird looking, but very tasty. Pours to a long lasting white head and hazy dark gold-amber. Aroma is grassy, citrusy, and bready/biscuity. Ditto in the flavor. Light-medium mouthfeel and moderate CO2. Very ugly but very tasty. A keeper.

Perfectly fine for what it is - crisp body, cracker malt and a little bit of grassy / lemony hops. Not gonna blow your mind but it is good and can definitely crush a few.

This is one hell of an offering until the backwash. Looks great, in true Sam Adam’s fashion. Three finger head and a slightly cloudy body. Very smooth with hints of Bavarian malts. Extremely clean. However, it’s a bit cloying and I could just be satisfied with the German purity law for this one. The “citrus” doesn’t belong in what is an otherwise great offering. Sam, please make me a great Maibock for spring!

Not too bad, but not exceptional. Tried pairing it with pasta and Steak, went very well with a medium well steak and potatoes. Taste of the brew was complemented by the steak, it was lost with the pasta with red sauce. Would probably be good with almost any beef. Nice feel, OK look, would purchase again but not top of the list. Good colder weather brew though, not a warm weather brew. Don't be afraid to try it.

For a bigger brewery and a somewhat boring style of beer this is one of the best in it's class. Not outstanding but very enjoyable. Great for the price. I will definitely buy this again.

I really liked this lager from the brewer that brought me to craft beer brewing...

I liked this lager, I really do. From the get-go I was impressed with its orange coloration, gradient darker to lighter from top to bottom and a nice fluffy white head to boot. Good lacing as well. The smell was worrisome as it smelled like an also-ran lager for the most part, but I was then pleasantly relived when I tasted the brew. The beer has a light and crisp mouthfeel, lightly carbonated with a slight astringent feeling on the back end. The taste was lightly citrus as well, but malty in the best of ways. This is by far one of the better lagers I have had in quite some time. Good job SA, as always...

12 Oz Bottle poured into glass
Look - cloudy and golden orange in color. Medium foam head with some nice lacing
Smell - very citrusy, lemon mostly. Some faint grassiness.
Taste - wheat and grass with lemon flavor. It doesn't really have enough hop flavor in my opinion. Mostly just wheat and some lemon peel. Some spices in the finish don't add much. Carbonation medium, body is medium-heavy. Not a session beer.

Overall, it's not great. It seems like a mix of a Witbier with a true Helles and that isn't what i want out of a beer. The flavor just doesn't make me want another, it's just okay. Certainly not a Winter beer. Grade is a B-

My wife picked up a six pack of this brew for me to try. From a bottle, it pours a very effervescent, deep gold color...light haze and a tall, frothy head. Nice lace. The aroma is a mix of soft malt and floral hops. Flavorful...bready and slightly sweet with a bit of a carbonic bite. Not crisp or clean, but rather malty and bread-like with a touch of spicy hops. Medium-full body. I liked it.

Samuel Adams Bavarian Lager has a thick, egg-shell head, a very hazy, gold-orange appearance, some bubble streams, and heavy glass lacing. The aroma is of spiced, white bread and orange marmalade. The flavor is similar, with lemon and low bitterness. Mouthfeel is high medium, and Bavarian Lager finishes moderately crisp.

Bought the Game Day sampler just for this with the hopes it would resemble the great but now gone Alpine Spring.

Not close. Not a bad beer though. Caramel bread like maltiness. I don't get he citrus they note on the hops (which are subtle)..just a mild spicy aroma and flavor.

Hazy oak color which doesn't fit the style.

You'd never confuse this from actually being from Germany but it is ok if you can get past comparing it to the top beers in this style. Slightly below average but drinkable.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with a June 2019 best by date. Sampled on January 24, 2019.

The pour is slightly cloudy and light amber in appearance with a modest white head. Some lacing.

The aroma has a pleasant bready note with a citrus and lemon zest character. Maybe a slight orange character with an herbal note.

Medium or better body.

The flavor is bready, malty, and sweet m oving toward a bitter and crisp finish. Pretty decent.

This is a beautiful beer to behold in a glass, yellow, orange and gold come through as the light hits it and even though the white head fades fast the lace hangs on as you work your way through the tasting. The aroma is malty sweetness with a firm citrus notes that blend well and hop spicy comes on as well as you move on, taste is malt forward with the citrus in the middle and a little hop spice in the aftertaste. A well balanced beer that is a shame to not drink out of a glass as it is a fine looking beer, overall it’s a great beer at a great price....shows the general style off really well and I’d grab a 6 pack of this again.

Attractive rich gold color with lasting white cap and good lacing.

Aroma of caramel malt and spicy hops.

Taste is caramely malt on entry underscored by herbal, spicy, slightly firm hops. Malt carries the whole thing forward to the finish ending on a mildly sweet note with some hop firmness into the aftertaste. Relatively simple flavors that are well integrated. Seems more of a Munich style Helles to me though the hops are definitely American.

Medium full texture with balancing carbonation.

Can't say quite what they're getting at here. It's a flavorful beer, pleasant and very drinkable, I'm just left with the impression that it might work better if it was a bit sweeter or a bit dryer. Solid middle of the road traveler here that I wouldn't mind sharing or pairing with spicy food.

Poured from bottle into pint glass

Appearnace- The beer pours a hazy orange golden color with a small white head. The head fades fast to leave a little bit of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell- The aroma is bready and slightly sweet with lots of caramel and a recent hit of yeast. Overall it'd pretty good!

Taste- The taste begins very bready and grainy with a good showing of caramel. As the taste advances some yeast and more sweetness come to the tongue. In the end one is left with a nice sweet and clean taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel- The body of the brew is on the average side in terms of thickness and crewiness with a carbonation level that was on the average side. The feel is great for the tastes of the brew and makes for a great feel overall.
Overall- A very nice tasty brew with a very easy drinking and refreshing feel.

A nice lager. Sweet, full bodied crisp finish etc. For a Helles Lager though, it seems to be missing some of the "pow" flavors from the grain bill that I usually love from some of my favorites of the style. Still a decent easy to drink lager. Mild recommendation.

Part of a Kroger mix a six. Always grab the newest Sammy Adams I can find as a single. Some are great. Some are good. Some are meh. And a few are bad. Still like to pay homage to one of the breweries that got me into this so many years ago.

Look - A super murky yellowish golden with a two finger stacked head. Carbonation appears to be exceptionally low for a lager but whatever.

Smell - Could smell it the moment I popped the top. Fruity with esters almost like a belgian but the hop content dominates over the latter.

Taste - Fruity and bready and a touch yeast. Not one flavor really takes prominence over the other.

Feel - Super full bodied with a low carbonation. Swallows thick though pleasant.

Overall - Certainly different. This actually reminds me not of a Munich Helles but instead a Zwickelbier that I had years ago by Sam Adams and the only example of the style I've EVER had. Fruity yet doughy. Very filling. Like a meal in a glass. It's unique. And pretty good. Try it.
