A short but level off-white blanket builds over a sort of dull, pale tan-amber body

Whatever tartness this beer initially came out the gate with seems to have entirely subsided, leaving amber malts and an unpleasant cardboardy graham oxidation.

Wow this one was bad.

I am continuing to purge the Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody while The CANQuest (tm) waits patiently in abeyance. If there was a silver lining to the COVID-19 cloud, it is my quarantine with all of this beer to be drank! This one came from Weis Market on Lititz Pike.

From the Bottle: "Brewer [-] Patriot"; "Limited Release"; "Tart & Wild Ale"; "11 IBUs"; "Who's got the funk? We got the funk. This beer is blended with a funky Belgian ale called Kosmic Mother Funk (KMF) (R) that is spontaneously fermented and aged for two years in Hungarian oak foeders. Wild yeasts in the barrels contribute a unique fruity and tart character. [undersigned] Jim Koch Founder & Brewer".

I Pop!ped the cap on this curiosity & started a slow, gentle C-Line pour into the awaiting glass. I was rather surprised as it foamed up to form two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with extraordinary retention for the style. Color was a solid Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a lightly tart funkiness, causing my lips to slightly purse. Mouthfeel was medium, big for the style. The taste was less tart than the nose had led me to gird myself for & the funk was relatively muted. I got a raspberry-cherry fruitiness from it, but it was rather light. I am used to being challenged by beers in this style & this just was not bringing it. I have adult-onset GIRD so I am compelled to take a pill before drinking something like this. Here, I could have probably skipped the meds. Finish was semi-dry & I felt like I had been cheated, except for the fact that I got it as a single, so it was a one & done anyway. YMMV.

A: golden brown with a light off white head.

S: lightly tart with some berry aroma, and a bit of lacto.

T: lightly tart with berry, fairly sweet, not bad.

M: medium light, with lower carbonation, and a slight dryness to the finish.

O: overall not bad, but not great either. I could see this being used for mixing.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Clear light golden amber pour with 2 fingers of foamy white head. Nice lacing.

S: Some green fruit and funk... a bit of oak/barrel.

T.F: Not much here. Minimal funk.. soap and oak. No tartness whatsoever. Maaaybe some hints of fruit somewhere in there but again... just not a lot going on flavor-wise. Light bodied... kind of unpleasant aftertaste.

O: Hugely disappointing beer. Looks good. Smells good. No taste whatsoever... and certainly nothing sour here. So glad this was in a mix-a-six.

This is hands down the most disappointing Samuel Adams brew I've ever had. This is not even the slightest bit sour or tart. It is underwhelming in depth of flavor and overwhelmingly boring. Doesn't even hit my cheeks. They should either ramp up the sour aspect or not attempt this again. Unfortunate.
