A-Pours with very little head that fades to a nearly flat surface. Very deep chocolate brown.
S-Aroma of cocoa with some slightly smokey malt and some sweetness.
T-Mostly smoked malt and sweet malt flavors. At the end you get a little pepper kick. Very very faint cocoa flavor.
M-Fairly thick, decent carbonation. Sweet from start to finish with some spice heat that catches up with you.
Overall, not what I was expecting. There's really very little chocolate flavor. I get a lot of smoked malt flavor and a very good bock flavor profile of malt sweetness. Not really spicy but there is a spiciness that catches up with you as you drink. An interesting beer and really surprisingly good for a bock despite the chili and chocolate.

newly bottled oct-2011 5.99 a 22 oz

A- pours a deep dark brown with a nice tan head
When held to the light a midnight red beaks through at the bottom

s- rich maltyness with cocoas and subtle roasted malts and chilli

T- upfront malt, roast, pepper... Fades sweet and smooth, with a surprise chilli ending. Not spicy but a chilli essence. very drinkable I'd love to pair this with the right dish.

O- awesome beer glad to see mr. Koch is experimenting.
was a great twist on the choc bock. If I can get my hands on more I'll be having this again. I would have liked to have more chilli up front with a higher abv to see how it would age and the chilli would settle but I guess this is how itd be. great beer pick two up.

Poured from the tap into a tasting glass.

The color is dark brown with some nice tan head and a some nice lacing.

The smell is a bit dark malt flavor with a little spicey, peppery aroma.

The taste is chocolate with some toasty grain flavor with some come pepper on top. Searching for any hop flavor I could find some did come out slightly but not enough to really guess at what it was.

The feel is medium bodied and is pretty drinkable. It has pretty even feel and goes down well.

Served on-tap at EBF 2010 in Boston, MA into a tasting glass at the appropriate temperature (02/21/10).

A: Pours a dark, chocolate brown with a small tan head which quickly subsides.

S: Great aroma of roasted chocolate infused with some mildly spicy chili and a roasted malt.

T: Chocolate mainly comes through in the taste while chili adds a slight kick. Certainly a Bock with a nice roasted malt and some faint hops.

M: Medium-bodied with medium carbonation with a slight creamy characteristic

D: Great balance of flavors and never spicy, this 5.5% abv. Bock is very easy to drink.

Overall this beer was a welcomed treat from Boston Beer Company and perhaps one of the easiest drinking, yet very flavorful beer at EBF 2010. Recommended.

I drank this into a tasting glass at EBF.

The beer is dark brown with a ok retention and lacing.

The taste is a chocolate chili smell. The chiili is more like peppers not a spicy tobasco.

The taste is also a chili chocolate. Its not a bad combination its really intriguging. However, I had this right after Sierra Nevada's and this one was far inferior.
