Rich caramel and molasses present itself as this beer warms, complimenting the woody bourbon and spirit adjacent character of this beer. This imperial stout was first aged in Utopias barrels and then finished in brown sugar bourbon barrels for a complex, full bodied wower of a beer.

Nice deep brown coloration, nearly pitch black. There's great agitation on the pour, allowing for a strong buildup of head that fizzles out nearly as quickly as it appeared.
The nose from the bottle oozes vanilla and maple; a clear predominance of sweet and rich. That said, once it's been allowed time to open up in the glass, there's a lot more barrel integration. A layered complexity brings dark chocolate cherries, sweet malt, toasted vanilla, and charred oak.
The palate takes some time to really hit its stride. That said, it comes together nicely. Brown sugar comes through initially, balanced nicely with a good smoked component. The mid-palate comes with big change; a distinct sherry quality that brings subtle nuttiness, dates, and a spiced, drying bitterness. The back-end characterizes the underlying malt bill, with baking chocolate and a touch of cigar smoke.
While fairly thin, the mouthfeel brings what it needs to the table; soft but present carbonation, and a distinctly dry but smooth finish. Side-by-side is a sharp booziness that fades into a great residual warmth.
