Continuing to blur the lines between what's sour ale and what's smoothie, 450 North is content to stray deeper and deeper into smoothie territory with a starfruit, peach, , mango and guava ale of XXL proportions.
Just like tropical fruit puree, Unicorn Juice Swirl pours with the visual density of pudding while teasing the nose with a full frontal fruit perfume. A waft of tropical punch with the soothing scent of vanilla and cream lead into a rich taste of sweet cream, sorbet and sherbet as the initial taste is rife with cereal and fruity sweetness.
The smoothie sour ale has no problem saturating the tastebuds to completion once upon the middle palate in nearly teeth aching intensity. Juicy, creamy and rich, notions of horchata come to mind. The prescribed fruits wrap in a cocoon of melted ice cream before a tangy and tart taste comes in late with some reprieve. Finishing, with a spicy pectin bite and a citrusy acidity, the late taste is cidery, wine and peppery.
Full bodied, cloying and firmly meant as a dessert beer, the malty-sweet taste outlasts any sourness as a long aftertaste of fruit peels, piths and pulp linger on the tongue.
