On tap at The Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a slightly murky brown color, with a small head, and no lacing.
Like the base, this smells a bit weak, with some light vanilla, harsh whiskey, sweet syrupy dark fruit aromas.
This beer, and it's base counterpart, are just not two of the better beers that Stoneyard makes. It's aged in Iron Smoke whiskey barrels, and unfortunately for the beer, Iron Smoke just doesn't make particularly good tasting whiskey. The harshness, booziness, and burnt taste of the whiskey kinda detracts from the beer. The base beer itself wasn't exactly complex, and the barrel aging doesn't do much to fix that. There's a little bit of vanilla which is nice, and a lot of the dark fruit that defines regular Not Frail. This is still just too weak and muted in flavor to be truly good.
This is medium bodied and slightly syrupy, with a lower level of carbonation.
This needs some major work.
