Tasted on tap at the brewery taproom. This beer had chocolate and low coffee in the nose and flavors. I found it a good porter with no flaws, but not outstanding for the style. Interestingly, the also had the cherry-infused version of this beer on tap and I asked the bartender which one she recommended. The straight, un-fruited style was her pick, and I enjoyed it.

nothing real unique or special about this porter, but its a pretty nice glass of beer, perhaps a little more robust than a lot of them are, with quite a bit of body for its lower abv, and a long bittersweet finish where the sweeter and roasted grains continue to go back and forth on the palate long after the swallow, trying to be the last standing, so i really tasted this one awhile after each sip, which kept me drinking kind of slow, and this overall felt heavy as a result of this sort of naturally slower consumption pattern thats built right into the beer. there is a little more roasted barley bitterness and darkness to this than there needs to be, its big on the palate, and it rolls over any other nuance the beer might have, a lightly smoked, almost charred depth to it, but thats really the dominant character of the beer, outside of a little push back from the caramel character in the grain. a tad sweeter than i like at the end too, but i could see this being just right after a long day on the slopes, as the name seems to imply. not my favorite from these guys so far, but should be agreeable for anyone who likes a little more of a robust porter...

Canned September 10th 2018.

Pours almost black but I see some red highlights so I call it dark brown. Impressive head of tannish foam, lots of lacing.

Smells of chocolate, very little roasted malt, kinda sweet as in lactose, like in a Milk Stout.

No surprises in the taste. Reflects the taste to a T, body wise, it ends up rather thin in the finish.

Not a Boise brew that I would return to.

A masterfully roasty Porter. A heavy punch of mossy earthiness up front and a lighter finish. Looks a wonderful dark, but with a bit of a quickly dissapating head. A great local Porter.

I had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at the brewery.

Appearance: good, dark hue with a finger of frothy tan foam. A good looking porter.

Smell: sweet with plenty of umami. It's a bit of a soy sauce beer. Not much roast; not death for a porter, but could be cleaned up.

Taste: umami, a little roast, a little caramel, and a little bit of vegetal hops. It's not bad, but it's maybe not my jam.

Mouthfeel: medium body with an OK carbonation and texture.

Overall: I feel like this porter could be a little cleaner, but it's not terrible.

On tap at Bittercreek Alehouse in Boise.
Dark brown, nearly black body with a good tan head.
Moderately strong for style with a hop/malt ratio that’s a touch above an average porter. Hints of coffee and no char. Nice smooth body.

On tap at the brewery. Roast grains are the predominant feature, finishing with some nice burnt toast bitterness. Dark brown with small beige head, fai.t roast grain aroma.

On tap at the taproom a few times .... Pours a standard black/dark brown... Thin light brown head, no lacing, no retention. Nose is also a little lacking.. dark malts with a some crisp toast and light caramel.. American porter with an English twinge? Flavor is a bit watery, and IMO needs more sweetness to really mesh the different malts together.. I want to like this more. Very pedestrian and doesn't really deserve another look until a recipe is changed.
