not a ton of innovation in recent months from these guys, so i was stoked to see a new pineapple wheat when we were in this week. its a basic base beer, but its totally defined by the pineapple, natural enough but also so highly dosed as to make it almost have to be fake, at least to me, but i think its drinkable and good at the same time, some of the beauty is in the simplicity, and i suspect this will crush it for them this summer, especially if they go ahead and can it. radiant honey colored with a little bit of haze indicative of the style, average height but lasting white head on top. the nose here is cool pineapple candy, white life savers, but also canned and even fresh pineapple, its front and center and real bold in here, some light cereal wheat there too, no hops or yeast elements to speak of, and the same is true in the taste. really pineapple forward, not in a bad way, my wife thought too much but i dont mind it, theres not all that much residual sugar which saves it for me, and the bubbles help push it forward pretty quick too. the body is soft and slightly creamy from the wheat which is flattering, there is some light acidity to the pineapple profile which cuts any weight, and the flavor is fully tropical, if a bit synthetic, almost a beer cocktail, very enjoyable for one, maybe two, not sure i would do a half dozen of them, but they did a nice job with this on the whole. lingers just a bit long at the end.
