these guys pretty much always hit on the classic styles, i thought this was really solid, sturdy for wintertime too, good body and heft in general, quite a lot more malt depth than i as anticipating, but still a real drinkable beer too, technically excellent. brick red, clear, and frothy headed from the single can i had. sudsy and lasting foam on top, off white, looks great. the nose is almost european to me, like an irish kilned malt type depth, bready, only a little sweet, some nutty warmth to it, and a familiar and apparent lager yeast strain in play as well, lighter on the hops but with some later bitterness for balance, and this seems dynamic for something kind of simple, also exceedingly fresh on the malt, really pops in a style i really didnt expect much from. definite european character in the flavor, and it warms up really well, mineral and earth forward, a clay thing, bread crusts, sandstone, light caramel and toffee but nothing slowing this down, it still retains a lager crispness. great movement from start to finish, tidy ferment, a faint hit of raisin there at the end. super well executed, this landed well ahead of my expectations and its one of the better beers ive had from these guys overall. rock solid, awesome for this time of year.
