750 ml caged and corked bottle. It was made for Cleveland's 5th annual Beer Week, but lucky for me some bottles made their way down to stores in Columbus. Served in a tulip, the beer pours a hazy golden/orange color with about an inch frothy off-white head. Head retention and lacing are both good. The aroma is nice, the brew smells mostly like citrusy (tropical fruit, grapefruit, orange peel) hops, along with some spicy rye and Belgian yeast. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some earthy breadiness noticeable. There's also a nice lingering bitter finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's creamy and is well carbonated. The soft carbonation helps make this easy to drink. I think it's a good overall brew, glad I got to try it. $10.99 a bottle.

Cleveland Belgian Citra Rye IPA

Look 9/10
Smell 18/20
Taste 37/40
Feel 9/10
Drinkability 17/20

Overall 90/100

Looks and smells like a world class brew. I expected some sourness, it was bit too much. I bet it ages well. It is conditioned too. (The bottle told me to drink one now and one later) luckily, I have another. As my palate adapts and it warms... It becomes increasingly smooth. Citra stands out, Rye takes a backseat. Love the idea, hope to see it again~

Limited Edition brewed for 2013 Cleveland Beer Week.

750ml cork and caged bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy golden with a fluffy eggshell white head that fades very slowly and leaves great lacing and retention. The aromas are hop forward. The Westmalle yeast isn't as dominating as I anticipated. There's some sticky grapefruit in the mix. Lots of pine, orange peel, and lemon zest in the nose as well. Flavors are very sharp and crisp. It has a great blend of fresh citrus. The rye is noticeable, giving it a subtle spiciness. There's some hints of black pepper. The Westmalle yeast is there, but stays in the background and accents all of the other characteristics in a good way. It has a nice earthy bitterness to it. There's a sweetness to it, but it's far from overboard. The mouthfeel is great. It's full-bodied and very creamy and fuffy; active carbonation. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Not too flashy, but it's just well executed. It's easy and fun to drink.

This is a nice Belgian IPA. They did a great job of letting the hops and rye shine. The Westmalle yeast is subtle and I wouldn't have minded picking up more yeasty characteristics, but it's all good. Well crafted and executed. It's awesome they brewed this for N.E. Ohio.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours lightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, pineapple, peach, orange zest, lemon zest, grapefruit, pear, floral, grass, spicy rye, pepper, clove, light honey, bread, herbal, and floral/yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of hop, malt, and yeast ester notes; with good strength. Taste of big tangerine, pineapple, orange zest, lemon zest, pear, floral, grass, spicy rye, light honey, light pine, pepper, clove, herbal, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of earthy floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, pineapple, orange zest, lemon zest, pear, floral, grass, spicy rye, light honey, pepper, herbal, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice compexity and balance of hop, malt, and yeast ester flavors; with a moderately crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a smooth, crisp, and fairly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Belgian rye IPA. All around great complexity and balance of bright hop, malt, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth and crisp to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
