Double IPAs, or Imperial IPAs as they are often called, are uniquely American in style. Bigger, stronger, more complex, Tap 79 Double IPA is medium-bodied and golden in color; floral and citrusy, with an assertively dry, hoppy finish.

Nice clean no frills double IPA. Sneaks up on you because it drinks easy and goes down smooth, yet its has the double IPA alcohol boost.

If you pour it incognito with other top IPA's I found it usually gets top compliments from the room.

12 oz. can poured into a large wine glass. Pours a fairly clear deep golden with a thin cap of whitsh foam. Retention and carbonation seem a bit thin but pour is fairly bright.

Aroma is a bit reaching. Hoppy like the single IPA with faint oniony aromas and some citrus notes. No pine or caramel to be seen so a new school DIPA in that sense. Some lemon notes mid palate and a fairly smooth feel and finish. Finish is more lemony cracker bread with a light coarseness and an oddly light bitterness character. Seems like the regular IPA fortified with some dextrose for an added kick, which thins the finish a bit.

A smooth drinking IIPA that's good but just doesn't quite close the deal on the finish. Still worth a visit and evolves a bit with warming .

Bought this at Trader Joe's. Assume it's a house brand. Terrible packaging. The pour looks nice, crystal clear with a foamy cap that sticks around for a minute. I can smell hops--a little lemony scent. More harsh than mellow bitterness and a lemon juice/lemon pledge taste sticks out. Thin bodied for a dipa. Certainly I've had worse.

Thought the regular IPA from El Burro/Tap79/Golden Road was decent, so I wanted to give this one a chance. First time I saw it at Trader Joe’s since the last time when I bought the IPA (Oct. 26, 2016). Was hoping this would have been a little cheaper for Trader Joe’s. Hope it is semi-decent.

Poured a medium yellow clear color with 4-to-5 fingers of rocky white head. Just a few bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass. Outstanding uneven foamy lacing. Outstanding lacing. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled Cascade, Citra, pine, dish soap, floral, citrus zest, tangerine, herbal and lots of tropical. Nicely balanced, smelling more like a single IPA. (Smell - 3.75)

Wow, better than I thought it would be on the tongue. Boozier than the nose, this was definitely an IIPA. Got Cascade, Citra, tropical, floral, mango, hints of grapefruit, pine, lemon zest, lime, light herbal, dish soap, bitter tropical peel and tangerine. (Taste - 3.75)

Light body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Abrupt, bitter finish. (Feel - 4.00)

This was a pretty good beer. Pleasantly surprised. (Overall - 4.00)
