Served on-tap into a pint glass, this beer draws a somewhat cloudy/hazy, medium brown color with some amber highlights when held up to the light with a tan head that's about 1/2 an inch thick when poured. Settles to a thick ring lining the inside of the glass along with some small cluster swirls of foam here and there in the beer's surface. Not much lacing. Aromas of tastes, bready, caramel malt sweetness and notes of brown sugar followed by some earthy, piney hops. flavorwise wise it is pretty similar, with the bready, toasted, caramel malt and brown sugar sweetness followed by a mild earthy hop flavor with a bit of bitterness. The sweet malt flavors certainly dominate here tastewise. Has a bit of a butterscotch like sweetness that lingers on my palate after a sip. Has a crisp, yet smooth and somewhat creamy with a medium body and moderate carbonation. Easy to drink in a good way. An enjoyable beer to be sure, but to me this looks, tastes, and drinks much more like a brown ale or and English Mild Ale than any ESB I've ever had. Misses the mark for an ESB.
