Very earthy and herbal with some pear and apple esters in both aroma and flavor with more pilsner malt sweetness in the flavor. Feel is okay, not dry enough for me for this style. I enjoyed it alongside grilled halibut with lemon butter.

On-tap at Club Level Grill, Richmond Airport Terminal B, Richmond, VA

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a moderate amount fo visible carbonation along with light hues of amber. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that has good retention properties and never completely faded away.
S: Light aromas of farmhouse yeast are preset in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of yeast along with hints of grainy malts.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink and isn't as spicy compared to some of the other beers in the style.

Pours light golden, minimal head dissipates quickly. Smells of belgian yeast, lemon. Taste is bready, lemon with some white pepper and light fruity notes. Mouthfeel is not as lively as I would like from a saison. Decent offering but not amazing.

Pours clear burnished gold, wispy white head. Ok lace
Smells fruity and spicy, with a hint of a lactic sourness
Very fruity from the yeast, a hint of peppery spice, slight tartness
Light bodied, not as spritzy as I like in a saison
Pretty dang good

12 oz bottle, w/o freshness or bottling date info that I can find.

Pours typical looking Amber, moderate at best cap and leaving just some minor bits of lacing

Some sweet malt on the nose and peppermint spicing.

More mintyness and more sweet for my liking, saison is a pretty wide open style, but to me this is not really in the main lane of saisons

Not nearly dry enough for a saison....too sweet. Not saisony enough, funk-wise. Didn't have the chunky foam I find enjoyable. Too many less than Belgian saisons out there, and this is one of them.

Hazy gold and a thin white head, nose that doesn't really do it justice as only a bit of clove pops up. Taste begins excellent as it's reminiscent of Saison DuPont with a tangy burst of bubble gum, clove and pepper but it fades into biscuity and bitter fairly quick, leaving behind a little bit of sacharin sweetness and bitter on the tongue.

A very traditional, dry saison. I prefer mine to have a little sweetness and their is very little here. It is a very "pretty" beer and has a carbonation level that I enjoy.

Poured a seethru (clear) golden body with one finger head and lace that quickly goes away. The aroma is more sweet than anything, with touches of candi sugar like sweetness and yeast (wheat twang) noticeable in aroma and also some spices. Simple saison that is mostly a sweet beer with tiny bits of spice and no funkiness. That being said, it's an enjoyable brew with a sugary sweetness that I can't pinpoint other than to say it's not a thick or sticky sweetness, more like a juicy sweetness mixed with some bubblegum yeast/wheat twang sweetness. Good beer and one worth trying but don't expect a traditional saison (or a saison at all, depending on your POV) awaiting you.

Very pleasant. Not as complex as some Belgian Saisons, which is a good thing. Superb color and smell. Just a tad less peppery would be good, but one h*** of a Saison! Kudos to Ardent in RVA!

Ardent Craft Ales "Saison" 6.7% abv., 27.5 IBUs
on tap at the brewery, $5 for a 12 oz. goblet

Appearance: Crystal clear deep gold body beneath a limited head of white. Lacing is limited as well (possible dirty glass from a busy bar).

Aroma: Sweet malt and spice, phenols of plastic and light clove.

Flavor: Apple juice. Sweet with a hint of honey. Spice mix of clove, coriander, and light pepper. Some banana. Moderate bitterness. Drying finish as the sweetish malt dissipates.

Mouthfeel: Medium to medium-light in body with a standard carbonation that lends a touch of zestiness to the tongue.

Overall: Pleasant. Nicely done. Not as complex as many Belgian saisons, but refined, and quite enjoyable.

On tap:
Pours a lightly hazy yellow-gold, with lots of visible carbonation through the haze. Head is fluffy white, decently sustained, with similarly decent lacing.

Nose is fruity Belgian, apple, peach, pear, banana as it warms. The Belgian yeast is noticeable but definitely in the background, adding light notes of both funk and farm.

The taste starts a tad bready, but the fruits take over as from the nose, but with some banana and earthy spice (clove?) added to the mix. The taste has me thinking of a breakfast pastry (without the sweetness). The taste is quite good, but seems to be missing a "farmhouse" nature, although the late tastes hint at it. The ABV may not be there, but it seems more Tripel in some respects.

The body is somewhat light. The carbonation, while quite visible, is more transparent on the tongue. Flavors are decently complex, adding a bit to the overall feel.

I did really enjoy this beer. I can debate how I interpret the style, but that doesn't reduce the enjoyment. I would say if you are looking for a dry, earthy saison, look elsewhere. But come back and try this when you're in a different mood, it's pretty good.

This is a classic saison in the vein of DuPont. Slightly phenolic in the nose, and bone dry on the palate. None of the sweetness common in other American saisons, and it drinks like a much lower ABV beer. Perfect for summertime. Great take on the style.
