Just straight up bland. Nothing remarkable about this one in any way -- but there's nothing nasty about it either. It's perfectly drinkable, but wholly unexciting. Use it to wash down whatever needs washing down, or to convince your friends you're not a total beer snob.

On tap - Pours a clear pale straw color with a 2 finger white cap...fair retention. Aroma I pungent breadiness with some light leafy grassy hop under tones. Flavor is typical pale lager, two dimensional but clean malty and fairly well balanced....clean quenching finish - a serviceable pale lager with nothing that really stands out.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Jul 27 2017 and served well chilled. I do try to rate to style, but I think it's probably fair to point out that I am totally not the 'target demo' for this beer, given that I rarely drink and/or enjoy light lagers.

Pours crystal clear, with a pale straw-yellow hue and roughly 3 cm of loose, soapy, big-bubbled head seated atop. It lasts for several minutes, dissipating continuously until only a thin collar of foam remains; limited lacing. If the no frills appearance didn't tip you off that this was a light beer, the aroma might do the trick - it's simple and understated, with gritty cereal grain sweetness being the only major element of note. Vague hints of wet grass and cardboard.

The taste doesn't stray far from the path laid out by the nose, with gritty grain husk, pale barley malt and corn sugar sweetness providing the bulk of the flavour. I am in no way certain if they used an adjunct while brewing this, but FWIW the taste reminds me more of an adjunct lager than an all-malt one. Even if they did, that's fine - light beers usually have corn or rice or the like in them anyway, and I can't rightly dock a light beer for being, well, a light beer. Hints of grass and straw on the back end, with the profile reverting back to pale malt and corn sugar in time for the aftertaste. Light, thin body with moderately lively carbonation, this is a true light lager.

Final Grade: 3.27, a mediocre C+. El Buscador is certainly better than the macros - but on the flip side, I think it's a step behind many of the other Ontario 'craft' light beers that I've reviewed in the past. The Mexican theme suggests to me that they're angling for the Corona crowd, as a handful of other domestic lights have done in the past (e.g. Brava). It could very well fill the niche for those folks, because it does taste rather like a (superior) Mexican lager - but at 3 bucks a pop, repeat purchases are a non-starter for this BA. I don't regret the tick, but I won't be back for more.
