It's nice to have an English Brown that is nuttier than fruitier... like Grandad Brown. While he only Looks slightly above average for a relatively flat foamy style, my nose gets attacked by a dark fruit brew and that finishes with some nuts in the mix. Tastes balance the caramel and sweet malts with some 22 IBU. Almost medium-mouthed, possibly fewer bubbles will help soften the finish into more of an elixir. A respectful representation of the style that NEBC practices well.
As for my very good Overall Hugs for NEBC, that's for their achievement of bringing brewing culture to a remote region midway between Sydney and Brisbane. While many micros show dedication to their craft, NEBC has shown some real talent in its 12 years. Reading thru their archives on their website, I'm impressed by what they thought up and would like to drink several of them... had they not passed into history. (UnTappd lists 166 beers.) Keep brewing, Mates !
