Marz Octoberfestbier is a smooth, clean, pale German lager with a moderately strong malt flavor and light hop character--the perfect companion for a mouthful of spaetzle, schnitzel, or Bavarian pretzel.
Festbier is the modern German beer served at traditional Oktoberfests (and fests of all kinds, really). something a bit more traditional, with more graham cracker and caramel in the body but with the same refreshing finish. Our festbier deftly balances strength and drinkability, with a palate impression and finish that encourages drinking it over and over. It showcases premium pilsner malt and toasted malted oats from Haus Malts in Ohio without becoming too heavy or filling, and a touch of old world red wheat for some crispy-boy crackle.

This seemed like a hybrid of BA's two styles of festbier and marzen. Like it a lot, but not a pure beer stylelistically. Reddish brown pour with a beige head and lacing. Nose has earthy and yeasty tones to the otherwise normal marzen malt aromas. Taste however is super bready, caramel malt there but in the backseat now, earthy hops, toast, and a hint of grain finish.
Frothy and smooth, drinks easy and light in a fun way. The wife liked it

Being a malt-head, I really appreciate this sweet attack; but I would appreciate more a tad more bitter in the finish. With the can's image and their intent with the recipe, it seems like Marz is trying to be traditional. But they are not there yet. I'm not sure this is stylized correctly as a Festbier.
Looks amber like a marzen. Mostly toasted, sweet malt in the nose. Not quite balanced because it needs more bitter to end. To make the sweet go away, I actually had to drink a pils with my meal. (It worked.)
I like Marz and this is my 11th from them. Many O-fests should be improved in the off-season. This is one of them. Prost !

2022:
Lighter in color this year, seems to be an improvement stylistically and overall.
2021:
Draft at Lodi Tap House.
While the brewery description calls it a Festbier and goes on about what a traditional Festbier is, the beer itself is actually a Märzen. Dark amber in color, fruity esters, light toastiness and malt sweetness. Medium bodied. Doesn’t follow the Festbier style, but it’s a good enough American style Märzen.

Had this 9/18/21 on draft @ Bitter Pops.
Looked, smelled & tasted the part; if anything, this had a bit of the complexity that the best German versions have. This ain't gonna make you forget about Ayinger, but it'll certainly do in a pinch!
