Got this in a growler from Glass Jug in RTP, NC. Weird mixture of flavors that really works. The licorice really stands out at first, and then the chocolate and rye come out. It's a beer that really needs to sit and open up -- didn't like the first sip nearly as much as the last few. Haw River really nailed this one (no surprise there, as they nail everything they try from what I can tell).

Tap at two locations and crowler from a third. Probably my favorite stout find of the season. Unique take on a sweet chocolate stout. I believe the licorice with the haw river belgian yeasts is what gives this a real unique flavor profile. The rye helps punch up an already rich mouthfeel. As another reviewer noted, yet another solid offering from Haw River.

From tap, poured in pint glass.
Pours dark brown, slightly oily and thick, with a short lasting head.
Good mouth feel. Very smooth.
Sweet taste. Notes of cocoa, citrus, wheat.

Overall, excellent beer. Good sipping beer. Enjoyed it.

On tap - This is very interesting & weird at the same time. Pours black with brown head and has faint smell of a good root beer. The taste is complex with licorice upfront, roasted malt, some hints of chocolate then peppery spice prominent on the back end. Medium creamy mouth feel. Worth a try.

Great balanced chocolate flavor and scent. Slight carbonation, minimal head. Creamy Mouthfeel and just sweet enough. Finish of root beer or sassafras. Overall, another Haw River masterpiece.

Poured almost black with a cocoa head. Smells like root beer and licorice. Tastes like Belgian chocolate and and has a good peppery rye at the end. Very nice medium mouthfeel. Really great beer.
