It pours a dark brown with a bit of clouding. There is a strong red wine aroma that dominates the other aromas. You can hardly smell the cocoa, and figs that the none Red Barrel has. The red wine gives the overall taste an almost tequila like flavoring. Spices and cocoa do come out with the red wine, but almost more of an afterthought. The palate is dominated by the red wine as well.
