Picked up a 16 oz single from the Appalachian Vintner in Asheville 1-23-23 for $3.02. Canned 11-15-22; consumed 11-28-23. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured dark brown with a beautiful nitro like head with the pour.

Nose gives light notes of light roast and toast along with some chocolate.

Taste is very nice as the light toasted and roasted malts give notes of pumpernickel and chocolate. Finishes perfectly balanced as the herbal and floral hops eliminate any overt sweetness.

Mouthfeel is soft and creamy making each sip pleasurable.

Overall, totally dig the flavor derived from such a small beer! Will have to pick up a four pack if i see it!

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear extremely dark cola brown approaching jet black in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the sides of the glass and moderate chestnut brown + amber colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall sudsy foamy tan head that reduces to a large patch of slightly mottled very thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Slightly heavier than moderate aromas of roasted + toasted + bready + chocolate malts with minimal amounts of sweetness and a light aroma of herbal + earthy hops. Light aromas of lager yeast and hints of coffee + licorice/anise.

T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of roasted + toasted + bready + chocolate malts with a minimal amount of sweetness. That is followed by light flavors of lager yeast and hints of coffee + licorice. Finally there are light flavors of herbal + earthy hops. Light to moderate amounts of roasty bitterness which lingers into the finish.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly crisp initially with a relatively clean finish.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a pleasantly refreshing light + crisp + clean mouthfeel. Enjoyable with lots of complexity to the malt aromas + flavors. Well constructed.

Middle tone black with a dark tan cap. Smoky earth, big malt, brown bread, and supporting chocolate in the nose. The taste features smoky earth, malt, burnt caramel, pumpernickel, baker's chocolate and a hint of leather. A more robust schwarz with a thick malt base, weighs down the palate a bit but not enough to derail

Look: It pours dark brown with a tan head. Head retention is average.

Smell: It has a chocolate, roasty aroma with a hint of coffee.

Taste: It has chocolate and roast flavors with a slight herbal quality.

Feel: It has a medium light body with a slightly sweet start and a low bitter finish.

Overall, it is quite easy drinking schwarzbier.

Appearance: Arrives espresso colored with a one finger tan head that leaves shards of lacing behind

Smell: Toasted black bread with hints of chocolate and black licorice

Taste: Toasted black bread forward with subtle chocolate and licorice tones emerging; the licorice becomes more pronounced in the finish as the beer warms

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Nice to have a Schwarzbier every now and again; well done
