The next beautiful entry in our wood-centric series Torn Paper Leaves, this bright, beautiful, golden tripel is brewed with barley & rye grown and malted right here in the great state of North Carolina. This new release explores the delicate soft spice of Spanish Cedar, which imparts notes of fresh grapefruit zest, white peppercorn and sandalwood, alongside a special addition of Asheville Tea Company's "Asheville Grey" black tea. A perfect accompaniment to a quiet Carolina summer evening by the fire pit.

16 oz. can. Clear deep golden. Smells of strong cedar, a little spice, and some fruity yeast notes. Tastes of cedar, some sweetness, banana, and then more cedar. Cedar is bitter in the end. Medium heavy. Can't say I love it. Too much cedar.

16 ounce can into a tulip snifter. Canned 6/22/21, had 12/11/21.
Pours a pale orange, a little cloudy, with a half inch foamy head and a coating of speckled cling. Aromas of cedar- strong cedar at first, earl grey/bergamot, white pepper, black tea, light Belgian yeast, light malt, a little vanilla. Flavors of earl grey/bergamot, cedar, black tea, white pepper, some malt, a little wheat, light vanilla. Smooth, a fairly thin light to medium body with a slightly watery feel, appropriately carbonated.
Love the cedar and tea, both separately and in combination, but they pretty well dominate this. The base Tripel is ok, but the mouthfeel isn’t a strong point.

L: Pours a dark orange color with a small white head and a few fingers of lacing on the glass.
S: A strong Belgian yeast, notes of lemon and sweet malt, followed by a light wood and then a very light black tea.
T: Strong Belgian yeast, some lemon and spice, followed by some lighter cedar and a light black tea in the background.
F: Carbonation seems a little low, bigger body.
O: This beer is decent but nothing spectacular, I don't find the cedar wood to be overwhelming as some of the other reviews have mentioned.

If one is curious to learn what rubber bands, scented candles, and rotten fruit taste like when aged in Spanish Cedar, that person need look no further than here. Cedar aging can’t improve every beer.

Murky dark amber with a cream colored head. Smell this really worked out well, bright cedar, barley and black tea sit atop belgian yeast, flowers, and lemon esters, certainly wood forward though. In contrast the taste is awful, like taking a bit out of a cedar plank with yeast and earthy grains, but the aftertaste is even worse with the black tea bombing the palate harshly. Feel is a mess but not to the same degree, wood dominate a light and wispy body, tea just gets dumped in, malt tries to save the day but fails, ester textures are solid though. Drain pour
