Appearance: Pours dark with a one-finger beige head that fades quickly but leaves some spots

Smell: Chocolate and espresso with undertones of vanilla, caramel and oak

Taste: Chocolate forward with espresso tones developing; earthy coffee arrives in the middle, along with Bourbon, caramel and vanilla; nicely balanced in the finish

Mouthfeel: Full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: After well over a year in the bottle, the coffee still shines through; a great beer

22oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a deep black color with a one-finger foamy white head that has short retention

S- huge earthy coffee espresso notes with undertones of mocha fudge, vanilla cream, caramel, oaky wood & a spicy peppery note to close it out

T- dark mocha fudge gives big chocolate notes up front that mixes with herbal and earthy coffee. Mid-palate gives some bourbon notes, along with caramel and vanilla. The finish gives bold espresso notes and lingers of mocha

M- medium-light body with moderate carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel and finish

O- my favorite coffee variety of the set, the Sumatra coffee works well with the base beer

Look - thick and dark, non translucent, no head

Smell - bourbon right out of the bottle, followed by coffee, then muted

Taste - dark coffee, not too roasty though which is just fine by me, strong bourbon

Feel - medium mouthfeel

Overall - a good / decent two dimensional bourbon / coffee stout that I enjoyed drinking - nothing to write home about but nothing to complain about either.

Slick oily black with almost no visible carbonation on the head...except maybe the faintest, thinnest of mocha rings.

We did a 3rd Anniversary horizontal, and this one came out on the bottom, due to its overly acidic sharp coffee and a roasted malt that came across as metallic. The body was also the thinnest, coming off as watery with a dry chew. All of this really exacerbated the already hot bourbon.

Needless to say, the "DRINK FRESH!" was not adhered to by my fellow bottle-sharers, and as such this probably suffered for it, but nonetheless, no enjoyable sips were had of this one.

Dark black, no head retention, leaving lacings.
Nose is a lot of coffee, dark chocolate, slight booziness, dark dried fruits,
Taste: sweetness, smooth coffee, dark chocolate, wood. not harsh at all.
Slightly oiled texture
Very well balanced, reminds me of BA Damon from Hill Farmstead.

Opened today at an epic bottle share are Fremont Brewing.

The beer pours thick, blackish brown color with pretty decent head retention and considerable lacing. On the nose, there's considerable molasses, along with coffee, dark chocolate. light leather and vanilla. There's an underlying roasty quality as well that adds to fun in the aroma profile. The flavor profile replicates the nose pretty closely in this fairly sweet stout, with beer displaying a great soft, plush mouthfeel. There's a bit of an odd bitter component on the finish, almost as of there's some coffee grounds remaining in the bottle (there clearly isn't). Nevertheless, this is still a pretty tasty BA stout, and the alcohol is otherwise well integrated into the flavor profile.

Very nice, tasty beer from the folks at Cycle Brewing.

This was kind of like a Bourbon County Coffee lite. Smell is great, tastes really good, and just a tad thinner than I would consider ideal. Overall a great BA coffee stout

Got this one from vanlingleipa. Cheers!

From a bomber into a snifter
Indonesia Sumatra Edition

APPEARANCE: Clear black pour yields a 2+ finger, thicker looking, creamy, dark tan head with great retention. A slow, thin stream pour was necessary to get the head, which produced a bubbly top. Black body with no carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a nice, full, creamy cap and clings to the sides of the glass. A splotchy wisp remains until the end but leaves no real lacing down the glass. Compared to the others, the head is not as large off an aggressive pour. Still, a beauty to look at.

SMELL: Bourbon, oak, alcohol, sweet vanilla cream and lightly roasted coffee on the nose. Milk chocolate as well. Much like the others and right up my alley.

TASTE: Bourbon, oak, alcohol, milk chocolate and sweet, creamy coffee up front. Flavorful. More oak and bourbon though the swallow, leading into a bold and lingering finish of spirit, oak, sweet vanilla cream, milk chocolate, and some roasted, bitter coffee beans. Wood and alcohol linger as well. Perhaps the most roasted and bitter in the coffee department.

PALATE: Medium-full body with low levels of carbonation. Silky and smooth on the palate, goes down slick and finishes somewhat sticky on the palate. A bit of heat lingers. Much like the others.

OVERALL: This is great stuff and is quite close to the Brazil Edition in terms of wood and alcohol. Differences are that this one is a bit more roasted and bitter in the coffee additions compared to the others, and the head is a little smaller as well. I quite enjoy the extra coffee bite after the swallow, so sign me up for more. These have all been great and it’s impossible to pick a winner. I’m glad I don’t have to. Thanks again vanlingleipa! Heavenly.

The smell and taste of this were incredible. Rich nougat, oak, dark roast char with an oily, nutty, and slightly earthy (rich loam) character to the coffee. But that lack of carbonation really hits it hard. The body isn't thin as some reviews say. It's actually fairly heavy for a beer with this little residual sweetness. But the lack of carbonation leaves it limp, a touch lifeless. A shame because this had the makings of the best in the series.

ravishing hooked it up with yet another 3rd anny, loved it the first and second time. let's get into sumatra!

paired with the warriors stompin out the lakers

22oz into a perfect stout glass, motor oil into the glass. bottle also states "drink fresh" eye eye!
looks good in the glass. barley no head tho, appear a lot less carbed
nose is amazing, tons of chocolate upfront followed by coffee and barrel. i like it better than the others, but i love chocolate
taste is awesome, huge barrel upfront and again a great presentation of the coffee. lots of chocolate. great blend of flavors!
mouthfeel really adds to the flavor, thick body coats the tongue. low carb.

overall this is also a well made brew. it's packed full of flavor, much more barrel sweetness that cuts the coffee perfectly. i think it might be a sumatra guy!

thanks to ravishing44 for this guy!
