Matte black with a creamy tan blanket settling to a thick, soft collar.

Smell is acidic coffee, cheesy wet wooden barrel, bourbon heat, roasted nuts, and metallic roasted malt.

Taste is sharp acidic coffee and bourbon heat cushioned by chocolate and mixed nuts combining to rich effect with a medium to thin body and semi-dry finish.

We did a 3rd Anniversary horizontal, and needless to say, the "DRINK FRESH!" was not adhered to by my fellow bottle-sharers. As such this probably suffered for it, but nonetheless, it was decent, and probably the (unexpected) favorite of the bunch.

really enjoyed this beer - thought it was the best of the 5 from the anny series. Thought that the coffee added balanced the beer perfectly. Which I had another bottle!

Got this one from vanlingleipa. Cheers!

From a bomber into a snifter
Jamaica Blue Mountain (Mavis Bank Estate) Edition

APPEARANCE: Clear black pour yields a 3+ finger, thicker looking, nicely creamy, dark tan head with great retention. Black body with no carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a nice, full, creamy cap and clings to the sides of the glass. A splotchy wisp remains until the end but leaves no real lacing down the glass. Head is a littler bigger than the others in comparison.

SMELL: Sweet vanilla cream, milk chocolate as well as pure chocolate, roasted coffee, oak and some bourbon on the nose. Nice stuff, much like the others. Perhaps a touch more sweet cream and vanilla here.

TASTE: Bourbon, oak, sweet vanilla cream, milk chocolate and lightly roasted coffee up front. Flavorful. More barrel and cream at the swallow, with a bold and lingering finish of bourbon, oak, sweet vanilla, milk chocolate, pure chocolate, and some bitter, roasted coffee as well.

PALATE: Medium-full body with low levels of carbonation. Silky and smooth on the palate, goes down slick and finishes somewhat sticky on the palate. A bit of heat lingers. Much like the others.

OVERALL: Excellent. It’s pretty difficult to pick a winner here, and if I really had to, this one might take the crown, but luckily that’s not the point. This one might have a slightly stronger bitter, roasted note and more dark chocolate than the others after the swallow, but they’re all pretty close to being the same. This one is really, really tasty.

really wanted to do the full set side by side but alas my alcoholic friends...er...tasting group...never seemed to dig the idea. something about these being obtainable seems to have given them a bad wrap. oh well, guess cycle will finally be just for the people who enjoy their beer vs the .rar crowd.

as for the beer itself...agree w the word in the atreet that it is a bit the for a cycle stout, bit it is still a cycle stout and caries much of the magic that cycle stouts are known for. flavor is top notch w the coffee really complimenting the beer in a significant way. dark fruits and roasted chocolate malt. a real treat...dessert like.
