Got this one from either desp59 or vanlingleipa a while back. Not sure. Memory is foggy. Cheers!
From a bomber into a snifter
Bourbon barrel aged imperial stout with pecan and vanilla
APPEARANCE: Super full bottle. Never seen a bottle this full. Right up to the brim. Pours out syrupy black and yields a very small, thicker looking light tan head that quickly recedes to a half wisp and ring. Pitch black body with no carbonation evident. Ring and touches of lacing remain but leave no real lacing on the glass. The lack of carbonation limits the head on this one, obviously.
SMELL: Big, bold aroma of pecan pie. Just as advertised. Nuts and crispy dough batter, vanilla and sweet cream, milk chocolate and bourbon notes as well. This is really, really aromatic. Basically bourbon laced pecan pie.
TASTE: Bourbon, vanilla and milk chocolate with pecan nuts up front. A good dose of bourbon and alcohol at the swallow, moving into a bold and lingering finish of bourbon, vanilla cream, milk chocolate, pecan nuts and alcohol as well. The bourbon and vanilla play a bigger role here and the pecan character is less pronounced than the nose had indicated.
PALATE: Thick, syrupy body with very low levels of carbonation. Almost flat but works fine for this style. Goes down silky slick and surprisingly smooth with a bit of a burn and finishes very sticky. Some heat lingers.
OVERALL: More Cycle loveliness. The aroma on this is excellent and is exactly as described on the bottle. Really decadent. The pecan is more restrained in the flavor but it’s still a treat. This one is obviously low on the carbonation, which might be why they decided to fill bottles to the point of almost overflowing, but to be honest, if there’s a style that can get away with lower levels of carbonation in terms of look and feel, it’s barley wine and barrel aged stout. Anyways, another treat from Cycle. Thanks again, gents!
