An old world, Belgian-style ale originally brewed in the Hainaut province to be the beer of the miners in the area, just as Saison was the beer of the farmers. It was lighter than Saison and frequently contained wheat as well as barley malt. It is a light, refreshing, blonde saison that is low in alcohol and meant to be session able and refreshing yet plenty flavorful.

On tap:
Nice head that lasts. Pretty clear dull dark gold.
Nose brings bubblegum a little string, a little grass.
Taste is similar, but on a light, almost watery body with light carbonation. A little hay comes in back with some grassy bitterness.
A little light, which is okay, but I wished for a little more flavor.

what a great beer, up there with the biere de garde as my favorites i had in here. not enough of these high grain session saison types out there, and this is a great illustration of the style. its thick and creamy looking, pale orangey colored but very thick with sediment. it smells and tastes great, liquid bready, led by wheat, but with some different barley malt and likely some rye as well, sturdy and flavorful for how low alcohol this is, always what i love about the style. the yeast is nice too, its more of an understated strain, but contributes a mild belgian type spice to this as well as a soft dried fruit complexion that adds a layer without being sweet. some mild hops on the back end too, more grassy and european than high alpha northwestern, but very appropriate for the beer overall. big fluffy body, thats the wheat at work, possibly bolstered by some oats as well. smooth and creamy feeling, bone dry, with a lot of body and a lot of carbonation. feels almost nutritive to me, really great example of the style. the beer here was awesome across the board.
