My first from Rye river, I went on their website and had problems. Every time I wanted to go to another page, they asked my age. At 72, this strikes me as unnecessary to read about what motivates a micro (it is very common) or the personality types (which are more common, but also more individuality.) Anyhow, I gave up on knowing about Rye River and settle for the data on BA. which is that they get many more people to try their pale ales.
And I can see why after drinking Upstream. In one of the most competitive styles, micros tend to lose their heads and flip into the IPA range. But Upstream is just a subtle, easygoing APA. While it Looks and Smells average, it Tastes better balanced than the average. Subtle hops linger in the finish. Medium-mouthed.
Despite not having the patience for this 12 year old's website not functioning, I still give them good Overall Hugs for their moderation going Upstream.

Pint from The James Connolly, Dublin (€6.80):
Pale amber & fairly clear with a thin, foamy white lacing on top covering the surface at least. Quite light hops & pale malts, some citrus & faint pine. The taste is very similar, light pine & sweet malts with some citrus but it was relatively light & a little basic but okay overall.

I am trying a pint of this beer off the tapper at The Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin. It poured a clear golden with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent has grain and subtle hop notes. The taste is nicely balanced and easy to drink with dry malt base and grain highlights and slightly bitter hop finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in the with good carbonation. Overall it is a good beer.

On tap at The Bridge 1859 pub. Served in a branded 0.5l glass - straight wall glass.
Appearance: Mostly clear gold to pale amber with a bit of haze. Rocky off white head, plenty of thick strands of lacing.
Smell: Pine with a little bit of citrus.
Taste: Bitter pine with a bit of grapefruit citrus at the start and finish of the beer. Cracker like malt in the middle.
Mouthfeel: Good thickness, light carbonation, A bit sticky on the teeth.
Overall / Drinkability: I feel like I'm drinking a classic west coast old-style APA here. Easy to drink and went well with food, but a half liter was plenty.
