i think one of the least appreciated breweries in denver. their beer is so good yet nobody is talking about it. this is a special brandy barrel aged edition of their delicious house baltic porter. i think the barrels bring out a unique malt complexion in the porter thats not as evident when it hasnt been steeped in the wood and the spirit. grapey and sweet at first, but with a detectable lager yeast flavor, even though the feel isnt quite there for that. chocolate and licorice and prunes and some booze and oak too, its all there. smooth but a little thin, with red wine notes, a peculiar malty richness, and some caramel and gummy fruit snacks. i like the overall flavor profile, and i do think its unique as they go. i like the brandy, its rather heavy in it, but the beer remains drinkable. this is made with more understanding and technical competence than these guys ever seem to get credit for, and i dont know why that is. not as baltic portery as some, but a really good dark brew that has a ton of flavor and stands out from the crowd. if you havent been here yet, what are you waiting for?
