this beer is amazing, a true oud bruin style aged two years in wine barrels with italian plums. everything about it is fantastic, and it shocks me that all the hip beer kids downtown here dont give more love to these guys. with beers like this, they have to rank among the best in town. deep mahogany color on this, nearly an inch of white head but it fades fast. the aroma is hard red wine and oak, tannic and fruity. the plums seem a little lost on that, maybe so well integrated they just seem like part of the wine influence, but it is immediately obvious to me that the base beer is exceptional. a slight fruity balsamic vinegar property up front here, with more of a woody musty funk in the back, a neat mix of yeasts for sure. the plums are more dramatic in the flavor, tart like the skins, intense even at times. crazy this is so low alcohol too, it really presents itself as being quite a bit stronger, but its one heck of a glass of beer. the red wine and maturity of the yeasts is unrivaled in anything local, how is this not a hot topic right now?! one of the best local wild ales i have had to date made by someone not named crooked stave...
