not amazing, but i appreciate the take on the style, i wish there were more of these around town. this one has some flaws though. as luscious as it looks, shiny obsidian black and thick, it looks a little too thick for what i know about the style, and there is basically no head at all on it. the aroma is lively though, rich dark roast folded in with notes of coffee and raisin, as well as some bitterness. i thought the flavor was a little heavy on the malt, more like a porter in depth and feel, lacks the lightness and brightness of better schwarzbiers, one was enough of these for sure, filling and even a little sweet on the back end. when i stop wanting it to be a german dark lager, and i just appreciate it for being a good brew, i like it a lot more. could be aided by a little less body and a lot more bubbles though.
