one of the newer ones in this series i think, brewed with this sweet cherry varietal, definitely very cherry forward, not as tart or even as complex as some of the single cherry cut versions, but an outstanding beer. clear for a wild beer, cleaner looking than most other casey beers i have had, with a radiant red color to it, a touch of pink, patchy white head on top, good contrast. the beer is tart more from the fermenting cultures than it is from the fruit, instead of the cherry compounding the sourness, it works to balance it here, not quite jammy, but definitely on the sweet and juicy side of things, it works though, because this is more like lambic than any of the others, tons of wood and bretty funk on top of the bacterial sourness, layers of each go back and forth again and again, a very long flavor experience, sweet only in the end, tons of the cherry. i do not know this specific fruit so well, but it sure seems to be a pretty intensely concentrated sweeter cherry flavor. a hint of medicinal cherry in the finish, aided by the wildness, tangy and musty, but also bright and lively, with high carbonation and not a whole lot of body. this is great beer, but the prices on the family preserves series i dont think is warranted, for ten bucks less the cut and fruit stand cherries that i have had are just as good...
