2017 vintage, a gift from a close friend, and a really special bottle of beer. for a couple of years now in the cellar i have just been looking at it, thinking it was a dark sour, oud bruin, flemish red, something like that, so i was surprised to pop it and see a honey colored beer, hazy and not overly lively, a bit dense and cloudy, but pale for sure. the aroma is captivating, smells like peach nectar and good mature whiskey, lots of oak, ripe stone fruit, honey, vanilla, and the casey funk very well developed in here, tons of brett, modest acidity, surprisingly low alcohol for what it is, yum! the whiskey is great in the flavor, quality for sure, but i cant place where the peach comes from, is it from the fermentation? it must be, no fruit in here from what i can tell, but its obviously peachy, delicious with the oak and light malt sweetness, like a peach cobbler or something. the acidity is light but the funk is high, some saison esters in the mix too. there is a light vanilla sugar thing in here which softens the sour, a ton of oak, and the smooth whiskey as well, really complex, oddly juicy, good and mature, weird and different, but amazing. more carbonation would be good, but its hard to be critical, this is so good. i should have known this would be killer, all the casey beers are, but this took my by surprise, an unexpected flavor profile for sure, and the standout of a really solid session. everyone i shared this with loved it, and rightly so. what a treat here, one of the most unique casey beers to date i reckon!
