Notes: Beginning as a traditional German Dopplebock, time and temperature have transformed this beer into a tantalizingly smooth Eisbock. A velvety malt backbone with notes of rich caramel and dark fruit bebops while being serenaded by a slow warming alcohol. But this Jazz ain’t free!

Eisbock is created by freeze distilling a dopplebock. We freeze our dopplebock and remove a certain percentage of water concentrating the beer and lagering it!

Pours into a snifter a rich chestnut brown with a thinner off white head atop, nice rich clarity to the body.Caramel and spice hits the nose and as it warms sweet alcohol plays a bigger role.Caramel, dark fruits, and mild nuttiness stand out most on the palate at the cooler stage,as it warms alcohol and cake becomes the flavor profile somewhat like a nutty fruitcake with a decent amount of booze.Great to see an American brewer go for the style and they did a pretty bang up job,a sipper by the fire in winter here.

A: Pours a relatively clear but dark enough to be almost opaque very dark mahogany brown in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising slowly along the edges of the glass and moderate copper + ruby red + amber + chestnut brown colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall foamy tan head that reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of toasted + bready + caramel + dark malts with moderate to strong amounts fo dark fruit (fig + prune), caramel, and brown sugar sweetness. Light to moderate aromas of earthy hops as well as moderate aromas of booziness.

T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of toasted + bready + caramel + dark malts with moderate to strong amounts fo dark fruit (fig + prune), caramel, and brown sugar sweetness. That is followed by moderate amounts of booziness. Finally there are light to moderate flavors of earthy hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which fades away quickly leaving lingering malty sweetness.

M: Just shy of full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Chewy with a light amount of alcohol warming in the finish.

O: Drinks quite easily considering the 14% ABV and the alcohol is well hidden. Enjoyable and a decent example of the style.

Deep copper with ruby hues , short lived off-white creamy head that rims the beer, medium clarity

Intense malt aroma with strong malliard, dark fruit, brown sugar and bread crust. Hop aroma is low with subtle earthy notes. A little booze in the nose but not unwelcoming

Similar to aroma, lots of dark fruit, malliard, melanoiden and brown sugar. Hop bitterness is low but slightly earthy from German noble hops. It's a bit sweet but is acceptable for the style

Big, chewy body with medium-low carbonation. Alcohol warmth is hidden but still noticeable and pleasant.

What an awesome example of this rare style, it hard to tell this beer is 14%, a very smooth, drinkable beer that I hate to finish. I just wish more brewers would follow suit in brewing eisbocks
