473 mL can from the LCBO; dated May 19 2022 and served slightly chilled.

Pours a clear copper-amber colour, topped with more than a finger of creamy, light beige-tinted foam that seeps off within a couple of minutes' time. A full, even band of ringed lace is deposited in its wake, with the other remnants including a thin collar and filmy cap; looks pretty good, I'd say. The aroma is comparatively dull, offering up restrained notes of toasted, bready malts, caramelized sugars and slightly citrusy hops.

As far as amber lagers go, this one is pretty good - not too sweet, with a decent variety of malt flavours, even managing to muster up some respectable hop notes. Toasted grains and bread at the forefront, with light caramel sweetness and even a touch of nuttiness; hints of lemon zest and piney, earthy hops develop nearer the finish. Mildly sweet aftertaste of toasted malts and lingering hops, . Medium-light in body, with moderately assertive carbonation that feels prickly and a little frothy in the mouth, resulting in a crisp, satisfying feel. Outstanding drinkability.

Final Grade: 3.78, a B+. Considering that I've posted a mere three amber lager reviews in over five years, it's safe to say that this is not one of my go-to styles. That being said, I can still appreciate a well-made one, and I think Boshkung's HFAL qualifies - its malt flavours are nuanced and well-developed, while its citrusy, piney hops are quite complementary.
