Pours a medium to dark coppery amber with a nice three finger off-white head with great retention and thick lacing. Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Aroma of saison style yeast, bready malt, rye, buckwheat, a hint of lemon. Flavor is bready and lightly grainy malt, saison yeast, rye, buckwheat, light citrus; lightly to moderately tart from the rye in the finish. Light bodied with sharp carbonation. This is not a traditional kvass, which is primarily fermented bread, but it does have the basic ingredients. Very bready with a distinct rye tartness that has light citrus notes in the finish. I've had homemade kvass, but no commercial ones at the typical low ABV of less than 2%. This at 5% is much closer to a real beer, but definitely has the clear rye bread notes I remember from Russian kvass. Nicely done and interesting. I like the looks of this brewery and this is an intriguing start at sampling their brews.
