On tap from the brewery.
L: The beer comes jet black with a finger and a half of a fine, light brown head. The retention is excellent taking a good while for the head to fall to about 3 mm which is retained as I drain the beer.
S: On the nose I get chocolate, dark toasted malt, cacao, and some vanilla notes.
T: First comes dark chocolate followed by roasted malts in the middle where they mix with cacao notes and vanilla turning sweet. The sweetness continues into the rear of the palate mixing with coconut but is slightly blunted by some almond nuttiness and more cacao and dark bitter chocolate.
F: Full bodied with medium low carbonation. The mouthfeel is creamy and sticky on the way down.
O: Great stout, highly recommended.

Sampling a cold 32 oz growler poured into my snifter. I picked up the growler at the brewery last weekend. The beer pours jet black and looks thick coming out of the growler. A minimal tan head of .5 cm foams up and fades soon after the pour to a seastar looking island with wispy tentacles grasping towards the edge of the glass.
I am letting the beer warm up a bit, but the early nose is dark chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla sweetness and a bit of brown sugar note. I dont get any of the coconut that the label promises, maybe as it gets warmer?
My first sip confirms the thicker body on this brew, plus a fairly sticky texture. The carbonation is very fine and tingly and breaks up what otherwise would be a bit of a syrupy feel.
Definitely coats my palate on each mouthful.
Flavor is dark chocolate and roasted malt notes mixing together with a bit of bitter coffee in the middle and then I do get some coconut on the finish, more of a toasted coconut than just sweet candy bar. There is also some dark chocolate on the finish and this mixed with the coconut does make me think of a Mounds bar a little bit. I dont get any hops here and the ABV is pretty well hidden.
Im glad I sampled this and filled a growler and would love to see this in cans and added to the rotation. Quite a nice Imperial Stout that is well worth a pick up if you visit the brewery.

A: Faded espresso with a hickory sheen. Tawny caramel head, thick and dense, slowly if ever sputtering out.
S: Almonds, faint coffee, and mocha/mace/cinnamon spice. Raw spiced cake dough.
M: Slick, soft and lush with a med-full body and moderate carb that keeps it from cloying.
T: Dark chocolate-espresso coating. Chewy caramel and coconut filling. Aftertaste is slightly bitter and woody reminiscent of slivered almonds. Samoa cookies or just a grown up version of their Coconut Joy porter. I'm wont to suggest the similarity between this and OH's candy bar inspired stouts, but the sweetness in this is much tightly contained by the finishing presence of the almonds.
